Introduction

This blog is my somewhat futile attempt to "bridge the sports chasm" between American sports (MLB, NFL, and the rest of the ESPN-centric world) and the global game of football (aka soccer, futbol, calcio, fussball, Beckham-ball, etc). I have been an American sports fan for my entire life, but after spending a year intensely watching and following European football, I think I can do a fairly good job of helping Americans/Canadians understand the sports landscape of Europe and vice-versa. I probably can also help bridge the chasm between Canadians and Americans as well, considering the vastly different perspective each country has towards "North American" sports. I will write about anything I feel like, but mostly it will be pretty mainstream; musings constructed in my head while watching both Sportscenter and Sky Sports News. However, I have a great deal of interest in all of European football, so my soccer perspective will not be entirely focused on the Premiership or the Champions League. Also, I love constructing sports related spreadsheets and databases, so expect to see a lot of those posted on here.

Here is a brief introduction of myself, as a sports fan. I am 26 and (probably) the only person on earth who is a San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bulls, Ottawa Senators, Pennsylvania Quakers, and Chelsea FC fan. How did this myriad of geographical sports interests come about? Well, being born in Chicago; raised in Phoenix, South Jersey, and San Diego, and going to college in Philadelphia (University of Pennsylvania) and St. Louis (Washington University), might do that to a person. True, this history doesn't quite explain the reason for all of my sports allegiances, but knowing that I have not lived in any area for more than 7 years will go a long way in understanding my point-of-view on many sports topics. Most days and nights over the past 12 years have been spent watching or listening to some type of sports event, and I can confidently say that I know more about sports than 99.99999% of the population.

Welcome to my blog. This is should be fun.
